The Pitcairnias are a curious genus. They hardly look like bromeliads and have so many different characteristics. The Sanguinea is a species that likes a little shadier conditions and will tolerate moisture more than most broms. The color is fantastic! The underleaf is a rich burgundy color and the stems and center veins are the same color. Combined with the deep green on the upper leaf, it's a knockout. The branched flower spike is fire engine red. The sale plants are mature and grow in a clump (like the one pictured). The planter pictured is also available in our store.
